Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH )

Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) is the largest research centre in Northern Greece.
As far as CCS research in CERTH/CPERI is concerned, the main orientation is to carry out fundamental and applied research focusing on capture and storage of CO2. The main research fields is geochemical monitoring of the gas and the groundwater, spatial monitoring for the identification of leaked CO2, gasification or combustion experiments with fluidised bed or chemical looping, mineralogical analysis of soil and rock samples etc. The main targets are the development and implementation of “cleaner” coal combustion technologies, the development of innovative environmental management methods, focused on CCS technologies and energy exploitation of alternative fuel sources, such as coal gasification and hydrogen production technologies.
CERTH/CPERI has longstanding experience in the field comes from the realization of numerous EU and national energy-related R&D projects, and close collaboration with Europe’s leading power producers.
Some indicative projects of CPERI, sponsored by FP7 and Research Fund for Coal and Steel, close to the rationale of the current proposed project, include: RISCS, R&Dialogue, CFB800, UCG-CO2 etc
